Vinous Neal Martin - 23 Jul 24
The 2013 Sigalas Rabaud does not have the same sense of charm as the 2021, clearly not as complex, more resinous in style with touches of Manuka honey and pineapple. The palate is actually where the quality lies: viscous on the entry, and nutmeg and hints of Indian spice dovetail into quite a generous, honeyed finish. In fact, the palate is so good that it makes me wish the aromatics had kept pace. Tasted from a bottle sent directly from Sigalas Rabaud to the UK.

Sauternes Fine Wine

Sauternes

Sauternes, a renowned Bordeaux appellation in the Graves region, is famous for its luxurious sweet white wines made from Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle grapes affected by noble rot (Botrytis cinerea). This fungus concentrates sugars, creating wines with rich sweetness balanced by vibrant acidity. Sauternes wines feature complex aromas and flavours of apricot, honey, peach, citrus, and vanilla, with excellent ageing potential. Top producers include Château d'Yquem, Château Rieussec, Château Suduiraut, and Château Coutet.
